RARE BULB NURSERY. LATVIA

These days the air temperature at day is about ten degrees above plus Celsius, but wind is unpleasant. At nights are some spring frosts. But at greenhouse is quite nice. We are collecting first seeds from corydalis and crocus. And still is full blooming from different bulbs. 

First row from left: Allium candoellanum, Allium hyalinum, Allium karataviense, Allium shatakiense.

Second row: Arum hygrophyllum, Camasia quamash, Eemurus lactiflorus, Fritilaria tortifolia

Third row: Fritillaria ruthenica, Fritillaria walujewi, Levisia Pinkie, Zigadenus paniculatus

Finally the rain has arrived! Not big, but all garden plants were very thirsty.

Yesterday I photographed some nice first flowers of oxalis seedlings.

At first row ( 4 photos) You can see Oxalis adenophylla seedlings and at second row- something new from Oxalis laciniata seedlings.

Some interesting plants has started to bloom. Allium paradoxum, Arum conophalloides caudatum, Eminium koenianum (do You know the smell of it?) and one nice Iris linifolia.

We had wonderful weekend with many visitors at open door days. Thanks to them!People who are interested in flowers gave additional impetus to work on.Time becomes increasingly warmer and fast all in bloom.It seems that everything is in blooms, even Alliums are starting to bloom.And first Paeonia (tenuifolia) yesterday opened first floral. But most wonderful at now is Geraniums. Colors and smells are indescribable.

Hello!

At nursery the weather becames more and more nicer and to work it is a joy! As you can see - spring is coming... and green colour at Latvia nature has arrived.

We remind that open days is this week. Un fortunatly (or for pleasure) there have been some missunderstandigs between days and dates- so this year open days are saturday and sunday (26th and 27h of April). We will wait all visitors. Tours will be every hour.

Weather became more and more nicer and warmer. At our district is + 15. Its a joy to work.  At field are blooming corydalis, erythronium and some scilla. But at greenhouse is amazing variety of bulbs which are in full flowers. And Juno iris has started their season.Some Iris vicaria examples..

Good morning garden friends!Wheather is getting warmer and finer. Yesterday I verified field crops and corydalis.Unfortunately some bulb beds are empty, probably at winter there have worked some mice or rats.But the bad mood improves bright tulips which You can see here. Open door day is coming. We are ready and in full flowering is amazing.This spring 27-th of April You can visit our nursery and see a lot of variability blooming bulbs.

Jānis is back from his trip to Armenia, but still is very busy working with new articles, making plant herbarium and doing other serious botanical works. I can only catch he at some small moments to ask some specifically questions about plants. There is a lot of work to do, but a lot of joy of flowers too.Still is very windy and temperature at day is average five degrees Celsius above. But meteorologists promise, that at weekend (when is Easter) will be +20.I hope we will have wonderful Easter.

Muscari is blooming

All the little creatures of God.

Sometimes when I am taking photos of flowers some little creatures prevents my attention. I know that Janis thinks that they are worthless flower photo..but I don't think so. They are so beautiful as flowers. Today I finished to organize latest photo albums and have found some nice pictures with bees, flees,
bumblebees, butterflies and frogs. Have a nice day! Liga

Good morning garden friends!

While Janis is at his trip to Armenia I`m working alone at greenhouses and will write some garden news at our nursery. All last week was unpleasant weather- fog, wind axis and low temperatures etc. Today temperature is only +4 C. But flowers inside is still blooming. Here are some nice hepatica pics.

Here are some close-ups from Corydalis solida `Bilbo` , `Cantata`, `Elrond` and `Rivendell`

wonderful Corydalis solida is blooming while outside of a greenhouse is snowing.

After very long interruption I return to garden news. Was extremely busy with many jobs in garden and with social activities. So now some delayed pictures taken around month ago showing crocuses in comercial part of nursery supervised by Liga. Here Crocus atticus and further C. tauricus.

Yesterday almost finished harvesting of bulbs. It means large stocks for catalogue. Some plants disappointed me - especially few stocks of Corydalis were completely eaten by rodents, same fate had some Erythronium - fortunately only one from listed in catalogue, many tulips and a lot of outside grown crocuses.

Now I started repotting crocus collection. Yesterday finished with pallasii and cancellatus group + some pots with species from Lebanon, Israel and Jordan. Most grew excellently only ochroleucus was poor. I hope to start despatching of orders next week.

Started blooming of Colchicum parnassicum repotted two weeks ago and Colchicum kotschyi blooms now in boxes. Those two impossible to despatch without flowers, may be it is reason why those beauties are so rarely offered by nurseries. Pictures I will show later but now you can watch my nursery from top - friends of my son in law bring here haxacopter who recorded from top my house, bee garden, buckweet field (for bees) and spots in garden covered by black plastic film for new plantings, although we more and more tend to replace growing to conteiners for protection against rodents.
