Every day the weather becomes more and more nicer. It`s a joy to drive to work! ( Only bad mud roads are around..)
We are now drinking fresh maple sap from tree and working. Janis almost all time is at crocus greenhouses. As You see at photos-there`s a lot of beautiful and serious work to do.

Spring crocuses are blooming.
It was big surprise this morning- snow was coming again. But other bigger surprise was to visit one of Janis greenhouses- where in full blooms are crocuses. So wonderful view and the smell from flowers are better than any perfume. More photos I will put in one of the next days.
Liga
Welcome to March!
The garden season has started! These previous months Liga have worked with home page, Gunas katalogue, with customers orders and Janis have traveled a lot- he is still working at his new book. From this I hope to inform you more often on the garden newsletter.
At our country almost all the snow is melted and bulbs wakes up. At new replaced greenhouse first rosenbackiana irises has flowered:
Iris rosenbackiana Tovij Dara, Iris rosenbackiana Vahsh, Iris rosenbackiana Varzob and at last photo is my junior assistant cat near Iris rosenbackiana Vahsh.
Here started real winter. We have minus degrees outside and some minor snow, too. We started work on new catalogue. It will be published in January (I hope). I was forced to delete last years offer because started coming of new orders by old list but our lists are renewed every year for around 20-30%, many items are sold up to very few remaining stock and will be needed years to rise them back again. Especially it concerns to Paeonia wendelboi. The request for it was so great that we even sold some splittings of mother plants. They all were divided this year and we every year are sawing seeds, but seedlings develops slowly. So you must wait.
The time at summer is running..We have finished to harvest bulbs and soon the first packs with bulbs will go to their customers! The weather is very hot, and it is not easy to work. But some bulbs are blooming even at such hot weather.
Acis autumnale, Colchicum kotschyi, Prospero autumnale.

We passed shortest night of year. In Latvia it is greatest Folk-festival of year, more important than Christmas. Traditionally we are making special home-made soft cheese (named Janis cheese) and drinking beer near fireplace in garden or on nature. By traditions you don't must sleep this night and wait for the first sunshine coming morning, all the night singing special folksongs decided for this night. Janis is wearing crown from oak leaves, girls - from wild flowers. The crowns are kept up to following year's Festival and then burnt in fire. This year we were only two because our children went to their husbands families for celebration, but it was nice evening regardless of very cold weather. In some spots of Latvia children were even playing with snowballs.
On pictures - Janis with Guna and fire made on small meadow near our nursery. On one picture Guna is placing old crowns in fire.

At the second photo, first from left is my mother and Janis wife Guna Rukšāns. She and Janis are wearing an ancient folk. And at the last photo you can find Janis as well.
Pretty nice weather is at our nursery. Sun, wind and average +20 degrees (celsius). There are just some few bloomers, but at Ligas place peonies are starting their big booming season.
All these weeks we are harvesting bulbs. A lot work to do..And a very few to take some new photos.
First row from left: Allium amplectens, Allium cardiostemon, Allium chrysantheum, Allium litwinovii . Second row: Allium oreophilum, Allium toulumnense, Arisema candidissima, Dichelostemma congestum, Third row: Lilium szowitsianum, Lilium akkusianum, Nomocharis forrestii and Ostrowskia magnifica.
Very busy busy weeks by harvesting at greenhouses tulips, crocus, iris, corydalis, arums etc. And at photos some late bloomers: Alliums, Allium x Silverspring, Fritillaria camtschatcensis dwarf, Fritillaria camtschatcensis lutea, Iris cycoglossa, Lilium sachalinense, Muscari massayanum, Narcissus radiiflorus.

Sun is back! Im so happy to work while sun shines. Its very colourful at Gunas Ruksanes nursery. As You can see- daffodils and tulips are in full blooms. It`s wonderful view.
Today I was working with sowing the eranthis seeds in wo different ways- lets see after years best results... And more time I was spending with oxalis. We have a lot of oxalis seedlings. Next days I will put some photos of new oxalis- wich I have
chosen to continue to grow.

Good morning garden friends!Last week flew fly by..And the new one has started with rains and fog, but the air temperature is optimal, plus an average of 10 degrees. Janis has left me alone and went to Holland and Czech Republic to meet some other gardeners. I will made inquiries and do seed plantings, replanting some fritillaria which are not well-grown, make some pollination of muscari and certainly will take photos of new flowering plants.
Now all Latvia are in full blooms. Cherry, plums, chestnuts and others blooming trees makes the air fresh and fragrant. Here you can see the cherry blossoms at our nursery. Later I will put some new photos of blooming bulbs.
I wish you all the successful work week,
Liga

New garden week at Latvia has started..with snow! And the weather is changing by the hours..Shining sun, rain, hail and even the rain. Parallel and cursed the wind does not work fine. These days we were replanting some fritillaria, collecting some seeds and check plantings. Even little helpers bees and others bugs and insects are not working, but resting. We wish parallel to the hard work you meet a moment to relax!
